All of that is in the Merc Corps- Outreach section of the forums.
I don't know about getting scooped up, most units will want you to submit an application.

Cool, I appreciate the input. I'll head over there and post it up.

I'm completely on-board with this. It's great advice which I plan on following.

Thanks for the info! That's actually a really good site for new players to get into.

Me, personally, I like to be very competitive, but not super-serious - if that makes sense? Also, I like to play with the same (large or small) group every day, as long as I can log in and see familiar faces pretty much every day. However, I completely understand that not everyone can dedicate five to eight hours per night, every night, to an online game. My wife plays online PC games, my son plays console games; we're a very tech-oriented family, and so I can actually dedicate a significant amount of time. But I'm looking for a unit that doesn't have a "revolving door" or "mass open invite" policy. I'm not dissing on units like that at all, it's just that I'd rather make lasting connections with people I play with, and form the needed cohesion for competitive play.
I want to thank everyone for being so informative. The MWO community is - by far - above par for welcoming new members, and being as informative as possible. I appreciate every word replied with from each of you, and it's very encouraging. I hope that this thread can also help alleviate some hesitation and/or anxiety from other new players, concerning grouping and scouting.
Thank you!

I was forced, by necessity and family duty, to take a hiatus from gaming. I was without internet service for several days after my initial propositions to interested parties, and unfortunately I was not in a position to communicate my situation. The internet black-out, along with other events, led to my immediate family prioritization.
Fortunately, the internet issues have been resolved, and the transitional period from moving internationally has cleared. This leaves me open to my favorite form of personal recreation once more; Competitive online PVP. I have been "back" for about a week, getting used to the changes and 'mechs once more. Hopefully I can maintain my reliable schedule, and extenuate any future absences.
Thank you for your time and understanding.

Thanks, guys. Seems like I returned at the right time. The Project Phoenix thing had launched the day I came back, so right now is pretty fun as far as competition goes.
